Our sedative options can be used in a wide variety of dental treatments and procedures, including cosmetic, restorative, or general dentistry. We are even able to administer many of these sedative techniques right here in our practice, with more advanced anaesthesia (such as intravenous sedation) being offered at an off-site, yet nearby location.
Types of Sedation Offered at Mills Dental Care
Just one of our commonly administered pain management techniques includes what is known as local anaesthesia “freezing”. This process ensures our patients are properly numb for any procedure requiring local anaesthesia. Additionally, we also offer Nitrous Oxide Sedation (commonly referred to as “happy gas”) for patients experiencing mild anxiety in relation to a procedure. This is administered by breathing gently through a nasal mask.
It is important to note that these mild sedative procedures do not make the patient fall asleep. In fact, they remain conscious the whole time. Instead, mild sedation allows the patient to experience a highly carefree and comfortable state, effectively managing their anxiety and preventing them from feeling pain or discomfort during the procedure. Both local anaesthesia and happy gas also make the patient feel as though their treatment has taken hardly any time at all!
For more complex forms of surgery (such as wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, bone grafting, periodontal procedures or other surgical extractions), we also provide intravenous sedation at a local, off-site facility. In some cases, patients suffering from severe dental anxiety may also require intravenous sedation to receive treatment.
